That's a nice laptop. I like the HP stuff, not as much as my mac but still... : )

The specs look great, my laptop has an older graphics card than that and runs WoW great, so that baby should fly.

gateway

HP

Looks like the gateway has a better graphics card but the hp has a blue ray drive which would be cool to have. what do you guys think?

Hey Baz. I'm guessing that you're looking for a 17" laptop. Me personally I'm more interested in 15.4" laptops for better ease in portability. However I'll link a few below that I would recommend.

Just as a heads up I'm glad to see that you've started off with a link to Newegg. I've been using their site for years and have been a proponent of what they offer.

When I do my laptop shopping on Newegg I start by selecting features that are important to me. Being a PC gamer, video and resolution are most important. That being said I am open to unusual notebook vendors. Since I work in IT that helps in making me comfortable in selecting something from off the beaten path. Part of my mindset is that todays components are mass produced and slapped together by vendors anyway.

First of all I'm not sure how important video resolution is to you. If you're looking for a 17" laptop with max resolution of 1920 x 1200, then perhaps you could consider the ASUS G Series G2S-X3. At $1,149.99 it's a heckuva deal. You could take the difference to upgrade the RAM and HD size if you'd like.

A 15.4" that does 1680 x 1050 (which is the size and resolution that I prefer) is the ASUS G Series G1Sn-A1. It has a NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS video card with 512MB video RAM. Not too shabby. At $1,449.99 it's right at your price range, but that's not counting shipping.

If I were to buy myself a laptop from Newegg, and based on what I look for I would get either the ASUS F3 Series F3SV-B4 for $1,099.99, or the ASUS G Series G1S-B1 at $1,599.99.

Anyway, my 2 cents. Good luck in finding something that works for you. These days it's fairly easy to find a good deal that fullfills what you look for. The biggest concern that I evaluate after looking at features is how good is the warranty.

Josh

i got the widescreen dv9000 for like $670 from Best Buy last August. My only complaint is that the handrest can get pretty damn hot.

see I'm with clause I got the compac laptop from best buy and have been mostly happy with it. I would have preferred a mac but hey money was talking. I can't play the resolution too high but high enough. It's also the one that is not for the big stuff it's for when Wade (hells) and I travel. I am however looking to get a second on so when he goes on deployment he can take one and I can have one. I get to keep his gaming desktop that he bought himself with me so I only need something small too.
